The cruising programme for 2010 contains some familiar treats, some new experiences and the chance to revisit, after long absence, one or two favourite old haunts. We hope you will find something in it that appeals to you.
All three Trinity vessels will be sailing from early April until the end of October.
Destinations and 2010 Highlights
Westcountry & Brittany Cruising
Most sailing cruises are from Devon and cover the western and central areas of the English Channel: the south coasts of Devon and Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly, Brittany, Normandy and the Channel Islands. These offer the very best of coastal scenery, secluded coves, bustling harbours and island haunts. The places we visit vary with each cruise, so there are always new ones, as well as old favourites, to explore.
The majority of these cruises last one week. New for 2010 we have introduced some short breaks and weekend cruises. You still get to experience all of the things that make a Trinity cruise special, packaged into a minimum of three nights afloat. For dates and prices click here
The Isles of Scilly
Within 25 miles of Land's End, the Scillies are a world apart, with an air of solitude and tranquillity from another era. There are five inhabited islands and about one hundred smaller islets. The islands have an abundance of interesting wild flora and birdlife, often not found anywhere else in the UK, sandy beaches and secluded anchorages, as well as the beautiful, sub-tropical Abbey Garden on Tresco. The climate is very mild, which make these cruises very popular. This year we have two six-night sailing holidays to the Scillies on Leader, commencing on 26th June and 3rd July from Falmouth. Onboard Cookery School
Cooking on board a yacht whether at sea or in a harbour is very different to cooking in a fully equipped kitchen on dry land.If you would like learn how to prepare a range of tasty and interesting dishes with limited equipment in the confines of small yacht galley then this is the course for you.
Simon ‘Oli’ Parr who cooked on both Leader and Provident in 2009 will be running a course on board Golden Vanity. This will allow students to learn some of the tricks of the trade from a professional chef and at the same time while away summer days sailing along the South Devon coast.
The course will last for three days starting on Saturday 12th June and finishing after lunch on Tuesday 15th. There will be a maximum of 5 students onboard as well as one of Trinity’s professional skippers so that you can enjoy a few hours of leisurely sailing when you need a break from the galley!
Leader will be attending the famous Dartmouth Royal Regatta for the final day or two of a cruise in late August, commencing on the 21st and the first couple of days for the cruise starting on 28th.
The highlights of the event include a parade of classic sail on the River Dart, lots of activities both on shore and afloat, a spectacular display by the Red Arrows - this reckoned to be the most spectacular setting of all for watching them - and fireworks after dark. While others queue to get into town via the park-and-ride you sail into this lovely estuary and have a ringside seat from the middle of the river.
The Tall Ships Races, (www.tallshipsraces.com), are an annual event. Their purpose is to provide an opportunity for friendly competition between the sail training fleet and to develop international friendship among the trainees and the communities visited during the races. They give participants the opportunity to gain new experiences, face new challenges, learn new skills, make new friends, and have a whole lot of fun!
The 2010 Tall Ships Race will begin in Antwerp, where the fleet will gather in July. From there, they will race to Aalborg in Northern Denmark, followed by a cruise in company with the rest of the fleet through the Skagerrak to Kristiansand on the south coast of Norway, from there the fleet races across the North Sea to Hartlepool.
The minimum age for the Tall Ships Race is 15. There is no maximum age limit, but it is a requirement of the Tall Ships Race that at least 50% of the ship’s crew are aged 15 – 25 at the start of the leg and we are offering a 25% discount on the price to everyone under the age of 25. Trainees will be involved in all aspects of life aboard ship including setting sails, steering, navigating, keeping watch, cooking, cleaning, provisioning, laundry, etc.
We offer a range of RYA sailing courses aboard Golden Vanity. These give those who want to learn in more depth, with structured tuition insailing and seamanship, the opportunity to follow an RYA syllabus, aiming for the award of a certificate at the end of the week. Courses are available to suit all levels of sailor.
Competent Crew will suit those new to sailing, or wishing to refine their basic skills.
Day Skipper is ideal for those wishing to make the transition from crew to captain.
