SAIL TRAINING - TAKING YOUNG PEOPLE TO SEA

Sail Training is much more than learning to sail. It is about helping young people to discover more about themselves, and begin to take steps to improve their future. It is an adventure, but each voyage is carefully structured to change attitudes, raise expectations and motivate young people. For many it is a rewarding and exciting opportunity to get away from it all. For some it is genuinely life-changing.

Trinity Sailing is an internationally recognised sail training organisation that has been taking young people to sea since 1999. We are committed to the personal development of young people through adventure sailing. Trinity is unique in that the voyages are all based on our historic fleet of eye catching vessels. The young people who sail them are both improving their own futures and helping to keep our maritime heritage alive.

Each year over 500 young people undertake sail traing course with Trinity and due to increased demand we have expanded our capacity through the acquisition of a fourth vessel, Spirit of Britannia.

The Trinity Sailing Trust, our parent body, is dedicated to helping disadvantaged young people enjoy the benefits of sail training, and in certain circumstances can assist with funding. To find out more please speak to a member of the Trinity team on 01803 883355

Historic fleet - Block and tackle sailing

Trinity Sailing own four wooden gaff rigged boats built between 1892 and 1924. The vessels have a long history that underlines their sea-keeping qualities. All four vessels are maintained to a high standard under the strict safety requirements of the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

What is special about our historic traditionally rigged vessels?

• Teamwork comes naturally with blocks and tackles instead of winches

• A solid and secure working platform, more stable and therefore safer than a light displacment modern yacht.

• Large enough to be challenging, yet intimate enough for young people to be involved in all aspects of life onboard. More versatile than square riggers - young people can learn to take charge
