Breakthrough

Activity and adventure on the high seas, onboard historic Tall Ships

A project by young people, for young people

Under the auspices of the Trinity Sailing Trust

Supported by: The Young People's Fund/Big Lottery Fund, The Henry Smith Charity, The Rufford Maurice Laing Foundation.

Breakthrough is a project that enables young people to plan and execute a challenging and adventurous experience that will benefit them in a number of ways:

Creating a sense of achievement - discovering what they are capable of accomplishing by their own efforts - learning a range of life skills which will be of lasting benefit - increasing confidence and self-esteem - building strong relationships with others - taking responsibility and earning respect - overcoming challenges in a healthy environment

Breakthrough is centred on offshore sea training voyages on traditional vessels, an environment that encourages motivation and creates in young people new and positive feeling about themselves and others.

The aim is to achieve a major shift in attitudes and expectations, empowering the young people to change the course of their lives for the better.

This website contains the experiences of the young people who take part in Breakthrough, in their own words and pictures. Starting in September 2006 and during the following three years, several hundred young people will have the chance to participate in the project and enjoy the benefits it can bring.
